Gas tank problem

My 2004 Xterra won't let me pump fuel except at a very slow rate. I know there is some kind of theft proof thing inside the fill tube and am thinking it has been compromised. Can anyone tell me what it's called and if there's a link on how to fix it, please send me there. THANK YOU!!
